How to flash the new D1 mini Lite with Arduino



  • Hi,
    I've just received a D1 Lite that I orderded to test this promising little board.
    I've been trying to flash it but I'm not completely successful.
    If you simply try to flash it with "Generic ESP8285 Module" it can't upload the sketch to the board.
    So I modified the boards.txt and created a new entry for the D1 Lite, based on the D1 Mini but mixing some of the ESP8285 Generic module settings, such as flash/spiffs sizes.
    With this configuration I can flash it, but it doesn't work. The console shows:

    0xef
    csum 0xef
    csum err
    ets_main.c rd�$

    And the usual garbage after that.

  • Thanks! I had my Arduino core cloned from the main Arduino repository (as per the old instructions, when I first set it up). Didn't know that there was a D1 branch.



  • A note for those who are using esptool.py: you need --flash_mode dout for this board.



  • How do I do this? Isn't there just a add board function?
    I can't get the lite version work...

    Never mind; got the wrong boards.txt.

    Used the right one and it works:
    ~/Library/Arduino15/packages/esp8266/hardware/esp8266/2.3.0/

    OK. I somewhat get it but where do I insert that large bit of code? Go to the bottomof boards.txt and paste it?
