Powering a Wemos D1 Mini/Mini Pro
Hello my friends,
I am a noob when it comes to this stuff and i am learning.
I am wondering if i can power my Wemos D1 Mini or Mini pro with this product?
Mean Well RS15-5
Just need to connect it to 5v pin?
Yes. And GND, of course.
Its also serious overkill!
I don't know this bit of kit, but I've come across computer PSU's that are similar to USB Battery Packs and know if "nothing" is attached and so don't supply any power. For USB Packs nothing is <1-200mA of power draw. Not sure with the PSUs. But it means the 75mA from a Wemos D1 Mini might not be enough for it to know its there!
Reason i am wondering is because i have a MQTT doorbell.
I want to mount this Wemos D1 Mini close to a junction box on the wall where i have 230v.
To use MeanWell seemed like the easiest way to get 5v out of 230v.
@ralphwiggum A USB Charger would be smaller and probably less power hungry.
Something like this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/AMGGLOBAL-Mains-Charger-Samsung-Devices-x/dp/B00RVZQJB6 would be fine (cheaper solutions are available - and as the Wemos D1 Mini only pulls about 75mA normally and might peak at 250mA any basic 500mAh charger should in theory be fine. Then just a USB A to USB Mini lead (like you would use for a smart phone) and it plugs straight in.
@polc1410 This would require me to install a power outlet in close proximity to the junctionbox. This would not blend in as much as hiding the meanwell inside the junction box.
